4 Reasons to Start Focusing on Your Website SEO Today
Website SEO is very important for every online business owner or blogger who wants his or her business to go viral on the internet.
As a small business owner or blogger, you may not have heard of search engine optimisation before – and, if you have, you may have decided that it wasn’t something that you needed to worry about.
Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. Every website owner needs to work hard to optimise their website and content for search engines like Google; otherwise, they’ll be missing out on thousands of potential visitors and customers.
Below, we’ve rounded up four reasons why you should start focusing on an SEO strategy today.
#1. You’re already behind
If you haven’t carried out any SEO work on your website, then you’re already behind and you need to start catching up.
You don’t need to do anything out of the ordinary to improve your website’s SEO – simply install Yoast SEO to your WordPress site, add keywords and meta descriptions to your posts, submit a sitemap to Google and sign up for Search Console.
#2. Your competitors outrank you
The chances are that your competitors are ranking ahead of you when customers search for products or services in your niche. And that’s not good enough.
If you want to rank ahead of your competitors and increase organic traffic to your website, then you need to start your website SEO strategy today.
The good news is that it won’t take you too long to catch up – and, in fact, giving your competitors a head start can actually prove beneficial.
You can use tools like Monitor Backlinks to see where your competitors have secured links, and then reach out to those webmasters and ask if they’ll link back to your website, too.
#3. Your future is online
When you’re hard at work, on client work and new projects, it can be tough to think about the future.
Where will your business be in five years?
Do you see yourself closing your bricks and mortar store and operating online only?
The chances are that your business will operate online exclusively, or at least place greater importance on customers who are referred from the internet. Putting in the hard work and improving your website SEO now will pay off…
#4. It’ll be cheaper in the long run
And that leads us nicely into the fourth point on this list – Money. Website SEO takes time and can be incredibly expensive if you work with an SEO agency, which is why we recommend doing as much as you can yourself – and as soon as you can.
Even building one link per month by guest blogging or directory submission can help you improve your website SEO – do this every month for a year, and you’ll be closer to ranking high on search engines.
WRAPPING UP
We’ve rounded up four reasons why you should take your head out of the sand and start investing in an SEO strategy for your small business, so now it’s time to put those plans into action and get started. The sooner the better and you’ll thank yourself for it in the future.

Hi Anyaogu,
Great tips and I have to admit, I don’t really rely on SEO too much. I know that I may be missing some traffic.
But I’ve been burnt in the past with Google updates. While I do make it a point to optimize all my blog posts.
I don’t really spend a lot of time building backlinks. However, I have recently started getting more traffic from Google.
You’re right, it’s nice when Google starts sending you traffic. I’m not even in the number one spot, I can only imagine the jump in traffic if I took the time to try to rank for certain keywords.
Thanks for sharing these tips.
Have a great day 🙂
